Handcrafted Umbrella

  • Michigan Folk School 7734 Plymouth Road Ann Arbor, Michigan USA (map)

People adore umbrellas. They are functional art on a stick. A quality umbrella begins with quality materials. It should be water-resistant, wind-resistant, and, in many cases, offer UV protection. The umbrella’s canopy should be large enough to provide complete coverage for two people. We have checked all these boxes with this workshop.

It starts with YOU bringing your own fabric and matching thread to the class for a truly personalized item. Using basic cotton fabric, you will learn to create an 8-panel umbrella using a sewing machine and a bit of muscle. Students will leave class with a finished umbrella ready to be sprayed with waterproofing/UV spray at home.

Umbrellas make excellent gifts. Do you have someone who has everything? Well, I would wager that they don’t have a handmade umbrella!
